Strategic Plan

Strategic Goals & Objectives : January 2005 – December 2006

With the help of NCCJ, during 2002 – 2003, MCMR developed an extensive strategic plan for the future work of the Council.  The year 2003 – 2004 was spent working with the resulting four sub-committees to fine tune each of the strategic areas and designate the following goals and objectives as the most immediate and necessary to continue achieving our mission.  The timeline outlays detailed action plans to accomplish these objectives.

Neighborhoods & Housing

Goal:  Create institutional buy-in for sustained housing integration

Objective:  Develop a network of local realtors, brokers, financial institutions, and
new and established homeowners to focus on issues concerned with housing integration (7/05)

Research best practices of integrated communities across the country (9/05) 

Goal:  Establish community dialogues and neighborhood interaction to support long-term          
           housing integration

Objectives:  Schedule dialogue training for MCMR members, schedule dialogues
with community leadership, in subdivisions, with PTA groups, and with faith institutions (5/05)

Support, encourage, and publicize neighborhood interaction, such as block parties, school music and drama programs, and movie nights (10/05)

Business & Employment

Goal:  Establish relationships between MCMR and local businesses and the Chamber of  
            Commerce

Objective:  MCMR membership in the Chamber of Commerce to participate in their programs and events 

Goal:  Foster development of religious, racial, and ethnic dialogues in the business community

Objective:  Establish diversity dialogues with small, medium, and large
businesses  (3/06)

Community Education

Goal:  Develop additional educational programming regarding cultural and racial       
            information for the mainstream population

Objective:  Create cable television outreach, book clubs, articles in print media,
and speaker bureaus (3/06)

Goal:  Involve recent community residents in information about the community

Objective:  Develop multiple language resource materials for non-English
speaking residents in existing publications published by the library, police/fire, schools, newspapers and on-line mediums (2/06)

Programs & Services

Goal:  Determine community needs of diverse population groups

Objective:  Establish focus groups to gain insight into community needs and 
develop new action plans (11/05)

Work with city governments to offer inclusive recreation and social
programs for residents (6/06)

Public Relations

Goal:  Sustain/build relationship with press

Objective:  Meet quarterly with local Observer/Gazette editors (on-going)

Goal:  Create enthusiasm for MCMR and our programming

Objective:  Introduce new CYF/MCMR collaborative video & develop other 
shows for cable television, advertise events on civic theater screen, maintain constant flow of press releases (11/05)

Continue to Administer Existing/Continual Actions

Goal:  Continue to offer existing MCMR services to the community

Objective:  Co-chair monthly MCMR Steering Committee meetings, facilitate
“Read America” program for newer English learners, continue existing events:  Rainbow Breakfast, Student Diversity Conference, Forums, Annual Progress Report, Dr. King Candlelight Walk, Heritage Week (Leadership Luncheon, Mini-conference, Swearing-in Ceremony, Heritage Festival) (on-going)

Goal:  Build and retain relationships with other community organizations

Objective:  Attend monthly Crime Prevention Task Force meetings – Farmington
Hills Police Dept., speak to/attend other community organization meetings:  Chamber of Commerce, Optimists, Boards and Commissions, Community Foundation, Exchange Club (on-going)

- Develop 1st set of community dialogues

  1. One subdivision in each community quadrant (4)
  2. Second MCMR/other leadership dialogue
  3. Woodbrook PTA

- Develop 2nd set of community dialogues

  1. One faith institution in each community quadrant (4)
  2. Second PTA dialogue

- Hold focus group sessions with: new home purchasers, realtors and brokers

- Work to get new homeowners, realtors and brokers on Neighborhoods & Housing Sub-committee    

- Research other diverse communities for best realtor practices

- Support, encourage, publicize neighborhood interaction:  block parties, school music and drama programs in local schools, movie nights for kids

2005 – 2007

-Continuation of support, encouragement, publicity of neighborhood interaction

-Continuation of dialogue coordination

Business & Employment

2005 – 2006

- Join Chamber of Commerce; attend 2 – 3 events

- Work with established Business & Employment Sub-committee to develop action plan to coordinate with their  Spring 2004 focus group with local business leaders

- Attend Chamber of Commerce events quarterly

- Develop business dialogues in each quadrant (4)

Community Education

- Develop network of authors for articles in Observer, Gazette; coordinate publication

- Facilitate cable programming opportunities

- Create Speakers Bureau

- Introduce community video on cable and to other organizations, i.e. service clubs

- Advertise on Civic Theater screen

- Constant flow of information releases to local, metro press

- Monthly MCMR Steering Committee meetings

- Support existing annual programs/events, 12 per year:
